Vanilla Extract in the Oven for a great smelling home!
Put two caps full of vanilla extract in a coffee cup (or oven proof dish) place it in the oven at 300 degrees for one hour.. within twenty minutes the whole house smells fantastic!! (common trick used by realtors to make homes smell simply delicious)

What a great idea! ! I've tried it on the top of the stove, but I imagine that inside the oven would be more effective. I've added orange peels to my vanilla before also. Smells delicious=)

ReplyDeleteThe tip says to put the vanilla extract in the OVEN, not on your STOVE. Common sense tells me that leaving vanilla on a stove burner for an hour will burn it...

DeleteI lowered the temp to 225 and it worked great. Not a very complicated adjustment if its burning. Also, you need to make sure its not directly under the upper heating element. That could cause it to burn. For easy cleanup out of the mug/oven-safe dish just pour some 70% rubbing alcohol or boiling water in let sit for 10-15 minutes. Should easily wipe clean.

ReplyDeleteI just put some in the oven to try it, another thing I always do is put the peels from our oranges into a pot with water and some cinnamon, let it simmer and it makes the house smell yummy, and if you have a pine tree throw a few pine needles in too!

this is awesome. I only have imitation vanilla, and I was worried of how different that would make the outcome. I also tapped in a little bit of nutmeg, cinnamon, and gloves into the mixture and set it on the top rack just in case the outcome became disastrous. While he was disappointed that there was anything yummy in the oven, he did say I need to remember this trick. ;)
