Essential Oils for Depression

Depression and Essential Oils

When something works for our family I feel that it is important to share it with the rest of you even if it is something simple. When it comes to Depression any help is good.

Depression is real, it is hard for those who have to deal with it and hard for those who live with someone who does. I did a post recently on Anxiety and these two usually go hand in hand.

This is a simple post on how Essential Oils have helped our family with Depression. My husband wanted me to share his story with you hoping that it can help someone else that might be going through the same thing.

My husband fell at work 15 months ago. Since then he has been in terrible pain and hasn't been able to work. This is a man who has worked his whole life, has served our country as a soldier and takes pride in his work and all the sudden he couldn't anymore. He was spiraling and his moods and feeling down got worse and worse. I had never seen him like this and I was starting to get very worried. No matter what I said or did nothing helped.

My sister Rebecca (Camp Wander) told me to start him on Frankincense Essential Oil under the tongue right away(putting it under the tongue gets it into the system quicker), 3 drops on the morning and three drops at night. She also said to put a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil in a bottle of water during the day.  He was willing to try anything at this point. I put the drops under his tongue and within a few minutes he was already feeling that sense of doom starting to drift away. It was truly amazing to watch this transition. Something so simple made such an impact and gave him a mental relief he so badly needed. He started the Lemon in the water and now is a faithful user of both every day.

I now have my husband back, he is still in pain (another post to come on dealing with pain), but he is happier and is able to lead a normal life. I can't thank my sister enough for her knowledge of Essential Oils and her dedication to sharing them with others.

Just yesterday morning he woke up feeling really bad. I reminded him to take the Frankincense. Within 30 seconds it was gone.

I use Spark Naturals Essential Oils. They are 100% Certified Pure PharmaGrade. If you are ingesting an oil make sure that it is a pure oils that can be ingested. Spark Naturals offers a 5 ml and 15 ml bottle so you can try the smaller one to test it. This is a great option for those more expensive oils. They are worth every penny. Use the code JEDDY and get an additional 10% off. This is not a MLM company and there are no fees. Just a great affordable place to buy oils.

Using a Diffuser in the home is a must! Everyone in the home will get the benefit of it. Make sure you get a good Diffuser that is meant for Essential Oils.

This is my opinion and experience in what helps our family. Jeddy's Blend has changed our lives in many ways. I highly recommend using Jeddy's Blend in addition to the Frankincense. I will never be without Essential Oils again.

Depression should never be ignored. You should contact your physician if you have any questions, this is an alternative to try. A very good one.

Never give up, there is always HOPE.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Dori, I appreciate you bringing up the fact that Spark Naturals offers both 5ml and 15ml sizes of their oils, which is what I like about them. I can't always afford to invest in a 15ml bottle. THANK YOU for sharing this story!!! I, too, suffer from depression, and will implement frankincense into my EO life a.s.a.p.!

    1. This is one of the reason I love Spark Naturals so much is that someone who couldn't afford something before can now buy a smaller cheaper bottle. I love that it opens the door for so many people. Keep me posted on how Frankincense is working for you.

    1. Stefanie, I haven't done any research for that but in my opinion it couldn't hurt to try it. Frankincense is wonderful for the brain.

  4. Hi Dori, Thank you for sharing your story: I am glad your husband has found relief from his depression by using Essential Oils. Can you (will you?) share if he is on any prescription medication, as well? I suffer from major depression (as well as three different severe anxiety disorders) and am on an antidepressant that works somewhat, but not enough (I was diagnosed treatment-resistant last year). I'm wondering if your husband is on both a drug and the oils, or if he's just on the oils. Either way, I'll talk to my doctor/pharmacist about the blend you mentioned in your above post to make sure it'd be safe for me to try. Thank you! :)

    1. He is on a medication but it wasn't helping until he started to use the oils. He does the Frankincense and Lemon, Jeddy's Blend several times a day and I have made a headache/pain reliever blend that has been working really well. I will be sharing that with all of you soon.

    2. I was diagnosed treatment resistant but have had a lot of luck with a newer drug Viibryd. It's made a huge difference for me. I also use several Essential Oils in my regiment against the battle.

  5. I have been on a popular anti-anxiety med for several years. All of my siblings have been prescribed meds for anxiety, along with my mother and nephew. During the week prior to menstruation, I exhibit severe insecurity, mood swings, confusion and panic. My family and I handle it well now as I can quickly recognize and correct actions but it is a trouble I would rather overcome. I wonder if this, taken the week before and week during would provide some help...I will try it and post soon. Thanks for the openness to share.

  6. So do you use the frankinsense and jeddys blend? If so besides the frankinsense under tongue how many drops of lemon do you put in a bottle of water to drink and where do you put the jeddys blend on the body. Very interested for myself and for my son who is autistic and has major depression.

    1. I put 2 drops and shake well before I drink it in a 16 oz bottle of water. Every time I fill it up I do it again.

I do both the Jeddy's Blend and Frankincense. Keep me posted if you try it. Thanks.

  9. Thank you Dori! I am going to try this. I bought Frankincense to try to stop a snoring issue. Now I am suspecting that my anti-depressant may be causing snoring (swelling). I'm not sure. Interesting how that came full circle to try the Frankincense for depression!!

    1. Try mixing it in some lotion and offer a back rub. Lime makes it smell really good. Diffusing is another option.

  14. Should the jeddy's blend be used under the tongue along with the frankincense, or still on the bottoms of the feet? Thanks!

  15. Thank you so much for with the depression and mood enhancement blend. And the Frankincense under the tongue. I am going to try this as well. Being a fairly new single mom of 4 children with Multiple Sclerosis, it has kind of become to much for as of late and I tell it is pulling me into a depression and I wasn't sure how to fight it.I have been using Zen for calming affects, I just heard about peppermint and wild orange being a mood enhancer, I will for sure try the frankincense and Jeddy's blend(which I got in the mail yesterday!) I do take lemon daily is it possible to add the frankincense to that in a capsule or does it not work as well? I add the Jeddy's blend to my feet right? Would it be good to do the Jeddy's and Zen together?

  17. The more I learn about essential oils, the more pleasantly surprised I become. I had no idea they could help with depression. Experimenting with oils seems a lot less expensive than experimenting with doctors and medication. I will definitely be giving essential oils for depression a try.
