Homemade Apple Fritters

Oh how I love Apple Fritters. I love a good doughnut shop that has fresh ones just put on the shelf. Here in Wyoming I haven't found one yet and when I came across this recipe at The Picky Apple, I had to make my own. 

They were surprisingly easy!  They cooked easy in the oil and the oil didn't pop which was a very good thing. It was all quite simple. 

It didn't start out easy though. Rule #1 - Make sure you have ALL the ingredients BEFORE you start baking! I went to heat up the oil and I HAD NO OIL! Ugh, I was so mad because my husband has the car today and the closest place to walk would be the Dollar Tree. So I walked and walked and went to the Dollar Tree who NORMALLY has oil. Did they today?? Of course not! So I walked some more to Smith's, got my oil and headed back. I wore the wrong shoes and got blisters on my feet.  I still made the Apple Fritters and they were delicious. Victory is mine!



1 cup of all purpose flour
1/4 cup of Sugar
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/3 cup of milk
1 egg
1 cup chopped apples


2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/2 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


Combine all the dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in milk and egg until combined. Fold in the apples. Pour oil into a skillet so it is about 1 1/2 inches deep and heat on high. Oil is ready when they float to the top. My skillet only let me put about 1 inch but they were fine. Carefully add dough to the oil in heaping teaspoons.  Cook until brown which will be about 2 minutes, then flip. Cook another 1 to 2 minutes, until both sides are browned. Transfer to paper towel for excess oil and then put on a cooling rack. Make glaze by mixing ingredients in a bowl until smooth and drizzle over the Apple Fritters. Wait about 3 minutes for the glaze to dry then flip over and do the other side. Best served warm. 

I made a double batch and the kids loved them when they got home from school. I have some left over so we can heat them up for breakfast with a cold glass of milk. I actually might add a little bit more apples next time. Hope you enjoy the recipe!

  4. Just made these this morning and I did use extra apples. Most of my fritters turned themselves over when they needed to be browned on the other side. How could I make them next time to make the inside "light and airy" and the outside "crisp"? This was a great, EASY recipe! THANK YOU! ~Marie
